Psychology faculty receive Teaching and Learning Enhancement Funds

Congratulations to Dr. Frances Chen and Dr. Lillian May, who received 2025-26 Teaching and Learning Enhancement Funds (TELF) to advance learning at UBC Psychology.

Created to enrich student learning, the TLEF supports projects that bring innovative and effective educational enhancements to UBC.

UBC Psychology Professor Dr. Frances Chen received funding towards her project Facilitating Student Success in the Psychology Major: Focus on the PSYC 217-218 Transition. This project aims to create, assess, and refine resources, tools, and strategies to help students overcome knowledge gaps and successfully navigate the PSYC 217-218 transition. Ultimately this project will have positive impacts on students’ well-being and academic success for years to come.

UBC Psychology Lecturer Dr. Lillian May received renewed funding towards her project Creation of a Canvas Module: “What Science Can Tell You About How To Be Successful in University”. This project will present a host of high-utility research-supported approaches to success in learning, via short, entertaining accessible video clips, available for use by any UBC instructor.

Dr. May’s project team:

The 2025/26 Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund awarded $2,436,139 to support 66 new and returning TLEF projects (16 Large TLEF Transformation projects and 53 Small TLEF Innovation projects).

The TLEF supports UBC’s strategic plan Shaping UBC’s Next Century, by advancing transformative learning at the university. It is funded entirely through a portion of UBC Vancouver student tuition. Since its inception in 1991, the Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) has supported more than 1,200 teaching and learning projects.
