The Department of Psychology ranks tenth in the world and first in Canada in the latest subject rankings by Times Higher Education World University Rankings (2018). Our 60 faculty members and 132 full-time graduate students and post-doctoral fellows conduct research across the spectrum of psychology, representing eight sub-disciplinary specializations: Behavioural Neuroscience, Clinical, Cognitive Science, Developmental, Health, Quantitative Methods, and Social & Personality, and Teaching & Learning.

Research highlights:

  • With over 45 laboratories, research centres and interdisciplinary hubs of collaboration, UBC Psychology is home to numerous ground breaking research programs.
  • Our interactive Living Lab at Vancouver’s Science World aims to make science fun for kids and parents, while improving our understanding of early child development.
  • A Centre for Gambling Research at UBC has been established to advance our understanding of gambling psychology and help reduce problem gambling behaviours.
  • Our faculty is well known for their research expertise in happiness, language acquisition, gambling, child development, gender roles, environmental behaviour, and neuroscience.
