UBC Psychology ranks among the world’s best in 2024

World university rankings recognize UBC Psychology for its excellence in teaching and research as well as its global impact.

Times Higher Education

UBC’s Department of Psychology placed 17th in the world and second in Canada in the 2024 Times Higher Education (THE) global rankings by subject. This year’s psychology ranking includes 621 universities, up from 600 last year.

THE’s 2024 World University Rankings psychology subject ranking uses the same performance indicators as the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, but the methodology has been recalibrated to suit the discipline.

The subjects used to create this ranking are:

  • Psychology
  • Educational/sport/business/animal psychology
  • Clinical psychology

The weightings for the psychology ranking are:

  • Teaching: the learning environment | 26.8%
  • Research: volume, income and reputation | 26.5%
  • Citations: research influence | 35.2%
  • International outlook: staff, students and research | 7.5%
  • Industry: income and patents | 4%

UBC Psychology also ranked 19th in the world and second in Canada in the QS 2024 World University Rankings. The 2024 QS World University Rankings by subject features 55 individual subjects across five broad subject areas. 1,559 institutions have been ranked across these subjects in 2024.
