Please join us in congratulating UBC Psychology professors Toni Schmader and Janet Werker, whose Canada Research Chair appointments were renewed.
Toni Schmader
Dr. Toni Schmader, Canada Research Chair in Social Psychology, seeks to understand how our membership in social groups, and the stereotypes attached to them, subtly shape how we view ourselves and others, and the choices we make in our lives.
She has received funding from both the National Science Foundation and the National Institute of Mental Health. Dr. Schmader has served as an Associate Editor at Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin and sits on the editorial board of Journal of Personality and Social Psychology and the Journal of Experimental Social Psychology.
Janet Werker
Dr. Janet Werker, Canada Research Chair in Developmental Psychology, is internationally recognized for her research investigating the perceptual foundations of language acquisition in both monolingual and bilingual learning infants. Her awards include, the Killam Research Prize, the UBC Alumni Prize in Social Sciences, the Jacob Bieley Prize (UBC’s premier research prize), and the Anne L. Brown Award in Developmental Psychology.
She is a Fellow of the Canadian Institutes for Advanced Research, the Royal Society of Canada, the Canadian Psychological Association, The American Psychological Society, the Cognitive Science Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
