Please join us in congratulating our faculty who have received UBC’s 2015 Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund (TLEF) towards their work in supporting and encouraging innovation in a teaching and learning environment.
Professors Peter Graf and Catherine Rawn, have received funding towards their project ‘Fostering Peer Learning & Assessment Skill’. This project will create and evaluate the tools and support materials needed for including a pedagogically valid and reliable peer assessment component in the Psych 101 & 102 classes.
Participate in a Peer Learning & Peer Assessment study!
To help improve current peer assessment methods, profs Graf and Rawn are conducting focus group sessions to gather feedback on various workshop elements to ensure they meet the interest and needs of Psych 101 and 102 students.
About the study
- The purpose of this study is to develop instructional materials that could be used for training peer learning skills in Psych 101 and 102 students
- The study involves one 3-hour focus group meeting (with refreshment breaks), on dates to be determined
- Meetings will be scheduled either from 9 am to noon, or from 1 to 4 pm
- Each focus group meeting will include between 8 to 12 participants
- Each participant receive a $30 honorarium

Transforming Learning at UBC
Professors Elizabeth Dunn and Catherine Rawn are also recipients of a TELF for their project ‘Transforming Large Lectures Through Small Group Active Learning Sessions’. They’ll be testing the value of transforming their third-year lecture classes by replacing a subset of the lectures with Small Group Active Learning sessions. The data collected will be used as part of the evaluation component to improve on the program and build a model that can be adopted in upper-level courses across their curriculum.
