Congratulations on becoming a member of UBC’s graduating class of 2020. Your accomplishment is the result of years of dedication and hard work, and I am delighted by your success.
These past few months have been extraordinarily challenging. Unexpected circumstances have kept us physically separated, but we have dealt with the crisis together. You have faced unique challenges and I have been inspired by your resilience and perseverance. I have also been inspired by all the contributions many of you have made before the coronavirus outbreak to building our community here in the Psychology Department – through volunteering or working in our research labs or participating in our many departmental organizations and events.
While your graduating class is sadly missing out on the chance to celebrate your achievements with your loved ones by crossing the stage to accept your degree, I want you to know that we in the Psychology Department are proudly marking this important moment with you.
I hope that you will remember fondly your time as a student in the UBC Psychology Department and that you will remain connected to us both as an alumna/alumnus and as a friend.
I wish you the very best of luck in all that lies ahead for you.
With warmest regards,
D. Geoffrey Hall
Head, Department of Psychology
