TITLE
Emerging Issues in the Teaching of Psychology
ABSTRACT
Undergraduate education in psychology is evolving. The lecture is by no means dead, but a variety of other approaches, including high impact practices (e.g., service learning, writing intensive courses, capstone experiences), are becoming more common in the classroom. The assessment of teaching and learning—particularly those skills acquired within the psychology major—is becoming more important, as is the accompanying recognition that most psychology majors will not be employed in fields aligned directly with the discipline. I will discuss these and related issues, suggesting how current and future psychology educators can consider selectively incorporating some new pedagogies into their classrooms.
