Congratulations to the 2026 PURC award winners

The 28th annual Psychology Undergraduate Research Conference (PURC) wrapped up on April 10 and 11, bringing together more than 120 undergraduate researchers for two days of posters, talks, and lively scientific exchange.

Hosted by the UBC Psychology Students’ Association (UBC PSA), this year’s conference drew presenters from across the department’s research areas, along with a strong contingent of students sharing work conducted at BC Children’s Hospital.

For many undergraduates, PURC is a first chance to stand in front of an audience and defend a research project they’ve poured a term or a year into. It’s also an opportunity for the wider department to see just how much is happening in labs across campus.

A panel of postdoctoral and graduate student judges spent the weekend attending talks, visiting posters, and working through the difficult task of selecting this year’s award recipients. Sincere thanks to: Zerevan Bindal, Olivia Chen, Alexander Cook, Brandon Forys, Yilin Guo, Jackie Heitzner, Dana Hunter, Seonwoo Hong, Oulu Li, Alia Mahrez, Joey Manaligod, Savannah Parsons, and Irein Thomas.

And now, the recipients:

PURC Oral Presentation Award

  • Donya Keshavarzi (Supervisor: Dr. Kristin Laurin)
  • Lynn Zhang (Supervisor: Dr. Steven Heine)

PURC Poster Presentation Award

  • Emma (Ziye) Zhang (Supervisor: Dr. Steven Heine)
  • Tarin Oli Ahmed (Supervisor: Dr. Peter Suedfeld)
  • Carmen Migić (Supervisor: Dr. Nancy Sin)

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s awards!
