We are pleased to announce Dr. Andrew Baron and Dr. David King are the recipients of the 2019 Robert E. Knox Master Teaching Awards.
Each year, the Department of Psychology recognizes the contributions to teaching and learning made by two outstanding individuals in the department through the Knox Teaching Award. This award celebrates psychology faculty and lecturers whose teaching practice is exceptional and inspires student learning.
Andrew Baron
Dr. Andrew Baron, associate professor in the department of psychology, is the recipient of the Faculty Award. Dr. Baron is the director of the Social Cognitive Development Lab at UBC and the Living Lab at Science World at TELUS World of Science. These labs explore the development of social cognition in infants, preschoolers and adolescents. A principal aim of this work is to understand the cognitive and cultural origins of social categorization including intergroup preferences and stereotypes at both an implicit and explicit level of representation.
David King
Dr. David King is a sessional instructor with continuing status in the department of psychology, leading courses in personality, health psychology, and the psychology of death and dying since 2012. His current research addresses the question of how stress unfolds within social contexts of varying size and complexity, from dyads and families to broader social and cultural circumstances (e.g., disease outbreaks, collective traumas). Other academic interests include socioeconomic factors in health, the impact of stigma and discrimination on well-being, and the role of meaning in trauma.
