TITLE

Psychological Contributions to Neurological Symptoms: It’s All in Your Head

ABSTRACT

How people make sense of and cope with their symptoms following a concussion powerfully influences their recovery trajectory. For example, perceiving cognitive exertion as dangerous and avoiding cognitively challenging activities may prolong disability. Dr. Silverberg’s research program aims to better understand the psychological mechanisms that perpetuate symptoms after concussion and conditions with overlapping clinical features such as myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome and functional neurological disorder. Dr. Silverberg uses these insights to develop and evaluate novel treatments.
