Anxiety, Stress and Autism Program (ASAP) Lab: Volunteer Research Assistants

The Anxiety, Stress and Autism Program (ASAP) Lab is recruiting Volunteer Research Assistants for the Community Advisory Board (CAB), an ASAP lab initiative aimed at creating a space where autistic individuals and autism related-community partners help inform our lab’s research initiatives based on their lived experiences.

CAB is both a community-driven project and a research study to understand participants’ experience on the board. Recruited research assistants will assist in both CAB operations and research-related tasks.

The ASAP Lab conducts clinical and community-based research to investigate the prevalence of mental health-related outcomes (such as anxiety and stress-related disorders) among autistic people. Through our research, we aim to improve clinical practices for identifying and supporting autistic individuals experiencing anxiety or trauma.

Position Responsibilities

Research assistants for this project will not be part of the CAB as a member, instead you will help support the CAB’s operations. As a member of the CAB internal team, you will:

  • Attend weekly meetings

Who are we looking for?

  • Be a current UBC undergraduate student with lived experience with autism (ie. having a diagnosis of autism or a family member with a diagnosis)
  • Experience working alongside people from the autistic community or other marginalized communities
  • A strong work ethic and willingness to learn research experiences (ie. thematic analysis, research dissemination) is appreciated but not required

Time Commitment

Six hours per week for a minimum of 1 year
