On behalf of the Department of Psychology, we extend our hearty congratulations to Emeritus Professors Dr. Peter Suedfeld and Dr. Robert Hare, recipients of two distinguished Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) awards.
Peter Suedfeld
Dr. Peter Suedfeld has won this year’s CPA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology. Dr. Suedfeld has spent his career studying human beings’ reactions to coping with the world around them. His research spans several major areas including psychological resilience and positive psychology, political decision-making, space and polar psychology, and Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy. The CPA Award for Distinguished Contributions to the International Advancement of Psychology is awarded to a CPA member or fellow who has made significant and enduring contributions to international cooperation and advancement of knowledge in psychology. Robert Hare
Dr. Robert Hare won this year’s Gold Medal Award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Canadian Psychology for his work in psychopathy. Dr. Hare is regarded by many as the father of modern psychopathy research due to his dedication to the investigation of psychopathy and its nature, assessment, management, and implications. The CPA Gold Medal Award is presented annually to recognize the exceptional and enduring contributions of a CPA member or fellow to Canadian psychology throughout his/her career. Drs. Suedfeld and Hare will receive their awards at CPA’s 76th Annual Convention in Ottawa, Ontario on June 4, 2015. Hare will also be presenting on “Psychopathy as Clinical and Empirical Construct: A Personal Perspective”.
