UBC Psychology – Statement of Support for the Global Climate Strike

This September, millions of people are taking part in climate strikes around the world.

On September 27, UBC students, faculty, and staff will join the Global Climate Strike by holding an event, which will take place from 11 am to 12 pm in front of the AMS Nest. After the UBC event, members of the campus community will travel by bus and bike convoys to Vancouver City Hall where the Vancouver Climate Strike will be held from 1 pm to 4 pm.

The Department of Psychology recognizes the immediate need for action to combat climate change. We support the Global Climate Strike and encourage our students to participate. We also pledge to discuss and implement ways to mitigate our own impacts on climate.

The Department has cancelled its classes during the 11 am to 12 pm period on Friday to allow students to participate in the UBC event. We have also encouraged our instructors to offer accommodations wherever possible to students who miss classes on Friday afternoon. If you have a class on Friday afternoon, please contact your instructor for more details.

Please read about UBC and the Global Climate Strike in a letter to the community from Santa J. Ono, President and Vice Chancellor, and Ainsley Carry, Vice-President, Students.
