On September 20, 2023, the University of British Columbia’s Equity and Inclusion Office and the Faculty of Arts issues statements in support of 2SLGBTQIA+ members of the UBC community. Although the statements were issues in response to a specific protest occurring on the UBC campus that day, our Psychology Department EDI Committee holds the value that UBC, and our Department, should be an inclusive and safe space for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, faculty, and staff every day. For this reason, we want to share the original statements and the resources contained within them with our Department community.
It is important that our department is a supportive place for 2SLGBTQIA+ students, faculty and staff, and we advocate for policies that safeguard their human rights.
