Meet Elm and Sepia: UBC Psychology’s cutest gargoyle geckos, and the scaly best friends of undergraduate student Chris Crabb.

Elm is a clumsy, nocturnal gecko who loves jumping from branch to branch in her terrarium. As graceful as she usually is, sometimes she misses and smashes into glass. That does not stop her. She gets back up and tries again until she makes the jump. You can really tell that Elm and Sepia are sisters based on the bizarre positions they enjoy sleeping in. Elm, lovingly known as Elle, is an outgoing gecko.

“When I first got Elm and was removing her from her shipping container, I couldn’t even get the lid open before she tried to hop out. She was very eager to get into her terrarium and wasted no time finding a good spot to chill.”

Sepia, alternatively, loves hunting for crickets and does not enjoy trying again if she does not catch them the first time. Her favourite position to sleep in involves hanging upside down from tree branches. As pictured above, Sepia is one goofy gecko!

“She once climbed up my arm, onto my back, and between a spot between my shoulder blades that I absolutely could not reach, so I just had to stay in the position and try to convince her to crawl onto my bed by awkwardly moving my back.”
