Graduation 2017: a time to reflect, celebrate, and look forward to the future

This spring more than 500 psychology students crossed the stage at the Chan Centre to receive their degrees. We celebrate each one our graduates, their accomplishments, and their futures. To mark the class of 2017, we asked some of our exceptional undergraduate students to share their personal and academic achievements and to reflect on their experiences.

Meet three of our graduates and read their stories.

For Ping Tomczyk, BA ‘17 Psychology (Hons), psychology offered him a new set of tools to examine and explore the world around him. Ping was chosen to represent his psychology peers as Graduating Student Speaker at the spring convocation ceremony; an achievement he is proud of. Ping reflected on his experiences at UBC and spoke on behalf of his peers. His advice for future students: be bold, strike a balance, get involved, have fun, and don’t be shy. More

Meet Lal KoyuncuBA ‘17 Psychology (Dean’s List). Lal’s career trajectory took a sharp turn when she began working at a UBC daycare; she realized her passion was working with children. Being around children inspired her and she nurtured this passion through research. She became a research coordinator at the UBC Infant Studies Centre where she conducted research in the acquisition and development of language in early infancy, with a focus on bilingual babies. More

Naturally inquisitive, Brandon Woo’s quest to understand the psychology behind everyday social issues has led him to receive numerous awards and accolades—including a fellowship at Harvard University. This budding scientist puts to practice what he has learned—and researched—in his everyday life. We have no doubt he will soon be mentoring and teaching another generation of students just like him.
