Dear Colleagues,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Kalina Christoff, Professor of Psychology and a Cognitive Neuroscientist, has been appointed as the Interim Director of the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies effective June 1st, 2019.

Professor Christoff has a long-standing relationship with the Institute, having been an Early Career Scholar in 2005, and a Wall Scholar in 2017. She received her PhD in Psychology from Stanford University, and did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Cambridge before coming to UBC in 2004.

I would like to thank all the candidates for agreeing to stand for nomination, and for participating so fully in the selection process. I am confident that I am arriving at this decision having heard from a broad and clearly engaged group of stakeholders.

The Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies provides scholars with an exceptional opportunity to explore innovative research questions in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment. As Interim Director, Professor Christoff will be the primary point of contact for ongoing conversations about the future of the Institute and the planned external review that was requested by the Vancouver Senate.

I look forward to working with Professor Christoff in the next year as she works to support current and new relationships within the Institute, across the University, and beyond. Please join me in congratulating Professor Christoff on this critically important appointment for the Peter Wall Institute.

Best wishes,

Professor Santa J. Ono
President & Vice-Chancellor
