The Living Lab at Science World is usually a hub for children who visit the lab to explore and take part in psychology research. Recently the Living Lab had an exciting new participant, Her Excellency Sharon Johnston. Their Excellencies the Right Honourable David Johnston, Governor General of Canada, and Mrs. Sharon Johnston were in Vancouver for an official visit.
On March 3, Her Excellency toured Science World exhibits and was keen to visit the Living Lab. To discover how UBC researchers are studying the thoughts and cognitive processes in children, Her Excellency participated in an experiment. This unique, interactive experience sparked her interest in the cognitive development of children.

This visit was a special occasion for the Living Lab as well. Dr. Andrew Baron, UBC Psychology Professor and Director of the Living Lab, says the lab was honoured that Her Excellency chose to visit it during her visit to Vancouver.
“We were thrilled that Her Excellency Sharon Johnston wanted to learn first-hand how we study the social reasoning and cognitive development in children,” says Baron. “Science plays an important role in inspiring kids to explore and investigate; Her Excellency’s interest in our research furthers our work.”
About the Living Lab
The Living Lab allows children—from infancy through to adolescence—to participate in research projects that explore their social reasoning. The Living Lab was created in partnership with Science World and the Department of Psychology at the University of British Columbia (UBC).
