Dr. Friedrich Götz is a personality researcher and assistant professor at UBC Psychology.
Congratulations to Dr. Friedrich Götz, who was named a 2025 Rising Star by the Association for Psychological Science (APS).
The Rising Star designation recognizes outstanding psychological scientists in the earliest stages of their research career post-PhD whose innovative work has already advanced the field and signals great potential for their continued contributions.
“It's a great honour to be named a Rising Star by the APS. Most importantly, it allows me to do something that I love and that is following in the footsteps of my wonderful UBC colleagues who have received this award before me, including Amori Mikami, Andrew Baron, Azim Shariff, Daniela Palombo, Darko Odic, David Klonsky, Jessica Flake, Joelle LeMoult, Kiley Hamlin, Kristin Laurin, and Lauren Emberson (I hope I'm not forgetting anyone!). These folks are excellent company – whether it is at faculty meetings, holiday parties, or APS lists.”
Dr. Götz is the principal investigator of The Personality and Geographical Ambiance (PANGEA) Lab. The lab comprises a group of psychologists, geographers, and computational social scientists who explore diverse methods to study the structure, development, and expression of personality and the multi-faceted ways in which it interacts with people’s physical and social environments. In his research, Dr Götz pursues an interdisciplinary Big Data approach to study the causes and consequences of regional personality differences.
“I guess now the job is just to make sure the Rising Star doesn't turn into a supernova. But here, again, I will follow the lead of the UBC people who came before me and who have all done exceptionally well in this regard.”
Please join us in congratulating Dr. Götz on this achievement!
