Dr. Friedrich Götz receives SPSP SAGE Early Career Trajectory Award

Dr. Friedrich Götz

Recognizing outstanding achievements by early-career scholars in social and personality psychology.

Dr. Friedrich Götz, an associate professor in UBC’s department of psychology, is the recipient of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP) 2026 SAGE Early Career Trajectory Award.

This award recognizes the outstanding achievements by early career scholars in social and personality psychology, including contributions to teaching, research, or service to the field. This award is given in collaboration with SAGE Publications.

“I am honoured and humbled to follow in the footsteps of my amazing colleague Rosie Shrout – celebrating back-to-back Early Career SPSP awards at UBC Psych. And I don't think this is just a fortunate coincidence. The SAGE Early Career Trajectory Award recognizes individual contributions to teaching, research, and service to the field in the first few years post-PhD, but it reflects not just the individual awardees, but also the institutional circumstances they have. Without wonderful colleagues, students, staff, and a ton of institutional support, it's extremely difficult to build an impressive early career trajectory. So, I believe what we are really celebrating here is a department that empowers junior faculty members to spread their wings, take flight, and thrive. And that, matters far more than any paper I have written, any grant I have gotten, or any class I have taught.”
