CIFAR has chosen Dr. Kelsey Allen, an assistant professor in UBC’s departments of psychology and computer science, as one of 15 Global Scholars for 2026-2028 in learning in machines and brain. As a new member of CIFAR’s global research community, Dr. Allen will join leading researchers from around the world to advance ambitious ideas across disciplines.
CIFAR’s Global Scholars Program offers early-career researchers the opportunity to develop and lead high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary research, expand their professional networks and receive focused leadership training in their pivotal first years as independent investigators. These experiences accelerate the rise of research leaders who are positioned to drive new discoveries and open new fields of inquiry.
Dr. Allen works across robotics, machine learning and cognitive science to understand the mechanisms that give rise to adaptive and efficient learning. Allen’s research focuses on decision-making and reasoning, with the goal of shedding light on how intelligent systems – biological and artificial – learn and adapt.
