Imagine 2019 Volunteer Registration

Each year, UBC Psychology welcomes new and returning students to explore everything we have to offer at our Imagine UBC events!

We’re recruiting student volunteers to help make sure our students not only feel welcome, but PSYCHED to be a part of our community! Volunteering is a great way to make friends with other students, meet some profs, and make a difference in a new student’s experience.

To say thanks, volunteers will receive UBC Psychology SWAG and a gift card!

Here’s where we need volunteers:

Orientation

  • 11:30 am – 12:20 pm—General Psychology Orientation: Students learn about their new academic environment and meet the Head of Psychology and Dean of Arts.
  • 12:30 – 1:00 pm—Behavioural Neuroscience Orientation: Students interested in the BSc in Behavioural Neuroscience program can take a deeper dive.

We’re looking for volunteers to post signage, hand out Imagine event schedules and info, and help students find their way to the Kenny Building, where everyone is welcome to attend the Faculty/Student Social!

The Main Event: Psychology Booth on Main Mall

  • 1:30 – 4:30 pm—Students will visit our booth to learn more about our BA and BSc programs—and take home some sweet give-aways!
  1. We’re looking for senior students who have taken part in a number of our programs or who are part of our student clubs.
  2. We’re also looking for “Ask Me” Reps to be stationed at the booth. Ideally the rep is a graduate student who can share their wisdom of what it’s like to study and do research in the Department of Psychology.

Kenny Building Tours

  • 2:30 – 3:00 pm & 3:15 – 3:45 pm—It’s no secret that the Kenny building is a maze!

To make sure our students are oriented to the building, we’d like some students who are familiar with the building to give a guided tour. (Training provided)

Panel and Workshops

  • 4:00 – 4:50 pm—Panel: Get Involved in Psychology: Profs, research assistants and honour students, along with reps from UBC’s Exchange, Trek, and Co-op programs will be available to answer any questions.
  • 5:00 – 5:50 pm—Concurrent Workshops: Academic and Career Success: Students can equip themselves with study techniques, grading, and writing papers —or how to prepare for the workforce.

We’re looking for volunteers to set-up rooms and make sure the AV is A-OK.

Photography and Signage
We’re also looking for event photographers and people to help post signage up at our various events.
