Accident/incident rates are often highest for individuals during their first six months on the job. As a result, safety orientations have become a mandatory part of the on-boarding process for all new employees (including students!).
Department safety orientation sessions are held through out the term and all are welcome to attend. These sessions are meant to supplement each lab’s existing on-boarding protocols and do not replace the need for each lab to conduct new worker orientations for all new employees.
Some of the topics covered:
- Workplace Safety Rules
- Job Hazards
- Rules for Working Alone
- Bullying and Harassment
- First Aid Services, Reporting Injuries or Illness
- Emergency Procedures (e.g. earthquake, fire, etc.)
- General security in the workplace.
